Getting and Forwarding Email Headers

Microsoft Outlook 2010 | Microsoft Outlook 2007 | Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2003, XP
Microsoft Outlook 97 | Outlook Express | Apple Mail

Microsoft Outlook 2010

  1. Open the offending email (double click the message to open it in a new window).
  2. Click in the "Message Option" button in the bottom right hand corner of the Tags section.
  3. Click in the "Internet Headers" box, and hit Ctrl and "C" at the same time. This copies the information.
  4. Next, click the "Close" button.
  5. Create a new message, and address the email to: abuse@netdoor.com
  6. Click in the body of the message, then choose "Edit", and select "Paste"
    The headers should be in the body of the message now.
  7. Send the message.
  8. The original offending message can now be deleted or saved as you choose.

Microsoft Outlook 2007

  1. Right click on the message title and select Message Options.
  2. Click in the "Internet Headers" box, and hit Ctrl and "C" at the same time. This copies the information.
    Nothing new will happen on the screen.
  3. Next, click the "Close" button.
  4. Create a new message, and address the email to: abuse@netdoor.com
  5. Click in the body of the message, then choose "Edit", and select "Paste"
    The headers should be in the body of the message now.
  6. Send the message.
  7. The original offending message can now be deleted or saved as you choose.

Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2003, XP

  1. Open the offending email (double click the message to open it in a new window).
  2. Click on View, then choose Options.
  3. Click in the "Internet Headers" box, and hit Ctrl and "C" at the same time. This copies the information.
    Nothing new will happen on the screen.
  4. Next, click the "Close" button.
  5. Create a new message, and address the email to: abuse@netdoor.com
  6. Click in the body of the message, then choose "Edit", and select "Paste"
    The headers should be in the body of the message now.
  7. Send the message.
  8. The original offending message can now be deleted or saved as you choose.

Microsoft Outlook 97

  1. Open the offending email.
  2. At the top of Outlook, click File, and then click on Properties.
  3. Click on the Internet tab.
  4. Highlight everything by hitting Ctrl and "A" keys at the same time.
  5. Next, while everything is highlighted, hit Ctrl and "C" at the same time. This copies the information.
    Nothing new will happen on the screen.
  6. Close the Properties window.
  7. Press the Forward button found on the toolbar.
  8. Address this message to: abuse@netdoor.com
  9. Click at the very TOP of the message you are about to forward, so that the cursor is blinking in the body of the message.
  10. Go to the Edit menu, then go to Paste.
    This will paste the property information that was copied before into this message.
  11. Send the message by clicking the Send button in the top left corner.
  12. The original, offending message can now be deleted or saved, as you choose.

Outlook Express

  1. Open the offending email.
  2. At the top of Outlook Express, click File, and then click on Properties.
  3. Click the Details tab.
  4. Press the Message Source button at the bottom.
  5. Select all the information in the new window by hitting the Ctrl and "A" keys at the same time.
    This will highlight (usually in black) everything in the window.
  6. Next, while everything is highlighted, hit Ctrl and "C" at the same time. This copies the information.
    Nothing new will happen on the screen.
  7. Close both windows (the Message Source window and the Message Properties window).
  8. Open a new message by clicking the "New Mail" button at the top left corner of the Outlook Express window.
  9. Address this new message window to abuse@netdoor.com
  10. Click once in the body of the "New Message" window, click the Edit menu at the top of that same window,
    and select Paste. This should paste all of the message source information in the body of the new message.
  11. Send the message by clicking the Send button in the top left corner.
  12. The original offending message can now be deleted or saved as you choose.

Apple Mail

  1. From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
  2. Click the Viewing tab.
  3. Select All from the Show Header detail dropdown.
  4. Next, with everything highlighted, hit Ctrl and "C" at the same time. This copies the information.
    Nothing new will happen on the screen.
  5. Open a new message, address this new message to abuse@netdoor.com
  6. In the body of the message, click the mouse once.
  7. Paste. This should paste all of the message source information into the body of the new message.
  8. Send the message.
  9. The original offending message can now be deleted or saved as you choose.
